WPPI-Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Convention

I am heading off to attend WPPI this week. I love getting to know other photographers and seeing all the fun new products on the market for professional photographers. An intense week of photography classes and workshops is ahead…and I am ready for it all! I can’t wait to come back home with tons of inspiration for this next year.

Below are a few of the photos I took at Me Ra Koh’s garden party last year. A huge part of these mini workshops was raising awareness for Thirst Relief.

LOVE

February 14, 2012 | Filed Under Couples, Family | Leave a Comment

On Valentine’s Day there is an inevitably romantic and tempting spirit in the air. It drives our minds and can make us do the most unpredictable, sometimes foolish, sometimes childish and immature things.

What will you do today to say I LOVE YOU?

Marisa & Blair {Kailua’s Vacation Photographer}

While on vacation in Kailua, Blair surprised Marisa with a photo shoot!
He wanted to capture her natural spirit and beauty.
She was thrilled by his thoughtfulness.
They were such a darling couple and we really created some great memories of their vacation together on Oahu!

Marisa, you are truly beautiful, inside and out.

Changing outfits was a breeze with their beach house just a few steps away.
Marisa had so many different looks she wanted to squeeze in…
and she pulled them all off stunningly!

I just had to get a few shots of Blair’s muscle car. After all, it not only proved to be a fun prop, but I’m sure it has a special place in their vacation memories.

Kailua Beach was gorgeous and we were so fortunate to have perfectly diffused light all morning!

See below for a slideshow of Marisa & Blair.

Aaron+Sarah Oahu Bridal Session

It was evident they were crazy about each other. The way he looked at her. The way she laughed. Young love is so sweet…and it only gets sweeter with time.

Take a minute to watch a slideshow of Aaron & Sarah’s photo session.

It was a beautiful evening at Lanikai Beach. Aaron & Sarah chose to do a bridal photo session before their Kailua wedding reception. It was the best decision! They looked absolutely stunning on the beach together!

Over looking Kailua, Aaron & Sarah’s reception had the most amazing view!

I love this last shot while we were leaving Lanikai Beach, full of the lush, green trees and hills.

Vance + Shari: Hawaii Wedding

August 19, 2011 | Filed Under Couples, Events, Slideshows | Leave a Comment

Tucked away in a beautiful part of the island, hides Eternity Beach. Surrounded by black lava rock, the ocean shines like a blue gem. It was a gorgeous backdrop for Vance and Shari’s wedding. It was small and intimate, with only a few family members who flew out for this special event. It made for a very romantic beach wedding. It was so fun to watch the bride and groom chase each other into the water, climb up the lava rocks and be so in love and playful together!

Captain Ken with A Dream Wedding Hawaii officiated at the wedding ceremony and did an amazing job!

I think we were all a bit teary-eyed at the end of the ceremony.

See below for a slideshow of Vance & Shari’s wedding. The song, “From This Moment On,” is sung by my friend, Madison Eror, who was their amazing wedding singer! She surprised the couple by singing ‘their song’ after the ceremony. It was definitely a highlight and later that night they requested to have Madison record the song so they could play it with their slideshow. So I send a big shout out to Madi for doing such a great job!

Mike+Bethany: The Bachelorette Party

Part iii of the Mike + Bethany wedding:

It started out a nice evening at a restaurant, but as bachelorette parties go, ended up a fun, slightly wild girls night with dancing and all manner of crazy games…and more dancing. I’m not going to lie, when our family gets together you can expect some craziness! I don’t think Mike’s sisters knew what they were getting themselves into. Again…welcome to the family!

Here are just a few photos from Bethany’s bachelorette party. The theme was sparkles and glitter and nearly everyone wore pink or purple tights.

San Clemente Reception: Mike + Bethany

May 25, 2011 | Filed Under Couples, Events | 1 Comment

As the evening drew near the skies grew heavy and dark. By the time all the guests were mingling inside The Casino San Clemente, rain was pouring outside. The Casino is a historical building perfect for all kinds of events. It really made Bethany and Mike’s vision of their reception come to life. The place really complemented the elegant, retro wedding theme. It was very cool.

The real typewriters kept the guests busy writing notes to the bride and groom.

The lovely cake.

The reception was amazing in every detail from the cascading chandelier of lanterns down to the love birds in the trees. Everything was planned out with the greatest care…and it showed.

A bit past her bedtime, my little niece decided to camp out on the floor.

San Diego Wedding: Mike + Bethany

May 23, 2011 | Filed Under Couples, Events | 1 Comment

The warm sun and crisp, cool breeze made for a gorgeous morning to be married in San Diego, California. We were all so excited for Bethany’s wedding day to arrive. The youngest of 7 siblings and last to be married, my sister-in-law inspired a bitter/sweet reunion for the whole family.

‘Bitter’ because we can’t believe she is all grown up and starting a life of her own! It seems like yesterday when I met my husband’s family for the first time. Bethany asked me to play with her and we jumped on the trampoline in the back yard all afternoon. Then I got schooled in a friendly game of volleyball by all the sisters. That was when she was eight. Bethany is still just as lively, cheerful and full of energy now as she was then.

‘Sweet’ because we love an excuse to get together and party like there’s no tomorrow! I have the best sisters…and do they know how to get a party started! Welcome to the family Mike!

Mike & Bethany were married in the San Diego Temple. It was truly a fairy tale wedding…including the beautiful princess, gorgeous castle and the handsome prince. It was perfect.

All the bright colors of the wedding were so lovely!

Bethany had the most gorgeous wedding dress! Love, love, love!

This little face cracks me up. Kids are so fun…especially at weddings.

My sweet husband who held the baby so I could take a few photos at the wedding. What a handsome guy. I’m so lucky to have him!

Oahu Bridal Session: Tadashi + Akiko

Two days after the wedding, he whisked her away from home in Japan… off to Hawaii for a grand tropical honeymoon!

When we first met, I couldn’t believe they had just flown in from Japan. Akiko looked stunning! Both the bride and groom looked so refreshed and eager to get started with the shoot. Their enthusiasm was catching. They were both so sweet, I really had a lot of fun with Tadashi and Akiko…and their friend Yumi, who came along to help out.

They stayed right on the beach in Waikiki at the Outrigger Reef Resort.

Akiko, you are gorgeous!

Off the crowded beach of Waikiki, we found this quiet, romantic little garden. The light was beautiful.

Love this scene with Diamond Head in the background.

The photo below was taken by Scott Moffat, who was assisting me. With the harsh sunlight beating down on us that afternoon, we needed a little reflector action.

Adi + Jesse: Engagement

February…the month of love…I can’t think of a better time to post my most recent engagement session. Here’s to new love!

I’ve known Adi for years and I was so excited to meet the man who captured her heart. Adi is a girl full of smiles. And her smiles come with greater rapidity when Jesse is around. Our day at North Beach was beautiful. The setting really complimented this gorgeous couple.

See below for a slideshow starring Adi and Jesse:

Jesse and Adi were so sweet and playful together…and busted up laughing when they got out the sand toys to play with.

I love when you can tell a couple is so completely in love.

This is one of the last photos we took and I think it’s my favorite! I love, love, love sweet moments like this.

12 Years

February 8, 2011 | Filed Under Couples | 1 Comment

Over the weekend my husband and I celebrated our twelve-year anniversary. John made me my favorite dessert, chocolate soufflé. It was so delicious, even better than usual. Perhaps it just tastes better when someone else does the work. Well, I loved it. And I love my sweet husband. He takes such good care of me!

Enjoy the recipe!

Chocolate Soufflé

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
10 Tbls butter
1 ½ cups powdered sugar
½ cup flour
3 whole eggs
3 egg yolks
*Optional: powdered sugar and raspberries to garnish

PREHEAT oven to 425 degrees. Grease ramekins or soufflé dishes and place on baking
sheet.

STIR together powdered sugar, flour, and eggs until well blended. Use a mixer for the
best consistency.

MICROWAVE chocolate and butter in large bowl until butter is melted. Stir until
chocolate is completely melted. Pour into the egg mixture and mix well. Divide batter
evenly into greased ramekins.

BAKE 15 minutes for 5 ounce ramekins. Bake 20 minutes for 8 ounce ramekins or
until cakes are firm around the edges but soft in the centers. Let stand 1 minute. Run
small knife around cakes to loosen. Immediately invert cakes onto serving plate. Sprinkle
lightly with additional powdered sugar and garnish with raspberries, if desired.

Makes 8 servings in the 5 oz. ramekins, or 4-5 servings in the 8 oz ramekins.

Variation: To make the soufflés a rich dark chocolate flavor, add ½ cup more chocolate
chips or substitute type of chocolate used.
