Feeling Grateful

The past few days I’ve been feeling grateful for so many things. Although my actual gratitude list is very, very long, I wanted to share a few that have really been at the forefront of my mind.
Hawaii- I am so grateful for being able to live on this gorgeous and diverse island. My husband and I met here, our children were born here and it’s the most amazing place to raise a family. Everything I love is right at my fingertips from surfing and scuba diving in the ocean to rock climbing and hiking in the mountains. When I step outside each morning and inhale the fresh, breezy air, I feel like adventure is just waiting to happen. And when it turns into just another average day, there is nowhere else I’d rather be. For me, Hawaii is home.
Friends- One of the disadvantages to living on a small island in the middle of the Pacific is the distance from family. Because of this, I’ve developed a very wonderful and tight group of friends. We support each other and help each other, trade babysitting and throw some mean pot-luck parties! We’ve grown so close because we don’t have anyone else to rely on here. When family is an ocean away, I am incredibly grateful for good friends.
Photography- I’m terribly grateful to pursue my passion of photography. I really love what I do and if you know me, you know that I could go on taking photos for hours. Photography is so many things to me. It’s a creative outlet, it’s artistic expression, it stimulates my mind and pushes me to stretch my limits and grow. I love a good challenge and when I’m behind the camera, the challenges are limitless…in a very good way.

Landscape Photography: The Canyonlands

On a recent trip to Utah, camping in the Canyonlands National Park was such a highlight. Having never been down there before, I couldn’t believe how vibrant the colors were and the unique rock formations were so amazing. While driving to see the Arches, we got caught in a storm for about an hour. It actually hailed, which is quite a novelty for me!

Hawaii Event Photography: Floating Lanterns

May 25, 2009 | Filed Under Events, Landscape | 2 Comments

Memorial Day evening a lantern lighting ceremony was held at Ala Moana Beach Park to honor and remember those who have passed on.
As my family looked on from their blanket on the sand, I waved good-bye and waded into the warm, calm water. Amidst the hundreds of people standing at the waters edge, it was such an experience to watch the floating lanterns drift out to sea. I was impressed by how polite the crowd was. It really added to the reverence of the evening.
